Laboratory Technician in County Durham
We are looking for a full-time permanent molecular biology laboratory technician to join us in our effort to provide accurate and early warning on the presence of a pathogen.
The laboratory assistant will be immediately responsible for the day to day running of the lab, maintenance of instruments and record the flow of products in and out of the group. They will work with the rest of the team to assist them in their immediate needs and maintain up-to-date records of the laboratory inventory and instrumentation calibration. According to their experience they will be, in collaboration with senior members of the team, implement the protocols that are developed in-house, record the procedures followed and record all findings. They should be able to communicate to a diverse group of scientists and lay people.
The technician will be mainly assisting in the activities of the biology laboratory, part of their time will be also utilised in assisting the needs of the engineering labs.
This is a crucial position that will ensure the smooth day-to-day operation of the technical teams of the biotechnology group and will suit a person that likes to be hands-on and practical.
Desirable Requirements
Work experience in a laboratory role in industry and, or BSc or equivalent in biological sciences
- Good laboratory practice
- Aseptic technique
- Preparation of media, solutions, buffers etc
- Lab-book write-up
- Nucleic acid purification
- PCR
- 1+ years of work experience in a laboratory
- Maintenance and calibration of instruments (pH meters, PCR machines, etc.)
Preparation of SOPs, COSHH etc experience of a non-academic laboratory setting
